The artistic expression of Filippo Barbieri (1976) does not easily allow the viewer's indifference. One can immediately love his work and feel intensely struck by it. One can feel a refusal instinct and feel the need to protect oneself from the impetuosity of his language and a need to avert ones gaze (an experience that every artist should consider a success). But it unlikely that one would meet the shapes expressed on the canvas and remain neutral.
The artist does not engage in this stance and his art is coherent with his existential approach that does not allow for buying time in the folds of contentment but adopts a muscular approach to existence and to art. Filippo Barbieri's artistic gesture descends energetically and impetuously, but conscious of the fact that the andeavour of affirmation, made of colours and sharp and diversely modelled iron, is to open a breach in the horizon on the unedited that awaits beyond the next threshold. The works of Barbieri are true invocations, in the smallest canvasses, in the long blades that climb, in the large canvasses that elevate themselves in works such as Portale. In this sense Barbieri's art has a profound spiritual corc.

Filippo Barbieri has been trained at the Brera Academy of Art in Milan.
He currently lives and works in London.
